Ramparts at Montreuil-sur-Mer - great walking track around the whole perimeter of the village.
Montreuil-sur-Mer stands on the top of a hill surrounded by medieval ramparts offering great views across the countryside. The town is made up of old cobblestone streets and small alleyways - shortcuts for the local population.

Later in the day we took a long walk around the ramparts surrounding the village. A very pleasant walk with stunning outlooks across the valley. The heavily fortified citadel was located at one end of the town - this is where the British set up their high command in 1916. Today it is a museum with the moated areas now used as sporting faculties and leisure activities.
