An aerial photo (off the information panel) of the beautiful surrounds of Cap Gris-Nez.
Caesar, Henry VIII, Napoleon, Hitler and us - have all spent time on these headlands! Again today it is proving to be a very popular place to visit. The food vendor (The Fritêrie) arrived again giving us an idea that he may be expecting large numbers. Talking with him he commented that if the sun shines then many visitors - no sun, no visitors.
Tides in today at the beach.
We are getting fitter every day. We took another long walk along the headlands to the lighthouse. The cool breeze strikes as soon as you arrive at an exposed position. We passed flocks of Boulonnais sheep - an ancient northern French breed that is now being managed after numbers falling to just 100 in the 1930s.
The Boulonnais breed enjoying the pastures at Cap Gris-Nez. This rare French breed is hardy, strong and has low food requirements.
We are still able to pick up radio Kent in the van which is giving us some insight into the mood of southern England after the Borough Market tradegy. Comments range from a truly fascist view ("bung 'em-up", or pack'em-off to country of origin") to a more serious attempt at processes that need to happen in the future. The common thought though is that more needs to be done before the tragedies happen.
Another beautiful day and a great view across La Manche to the English coastline and the white cliffs.
Our resident artist is back at his easel today polishing off a few more paintings. It's amazing how quickly he is able to complete one small painting - and they look pretty good too.
Love the French
It has been interesting over the past two days as to whether someone would park next to us in a NO Parking area. And true to form we have had Belgiums, Germans and Dutch who looked to park there but saw the No Parking sign, but not the French.
Two different French vans have looked at the sign and then decided to park there regardless. Love the French!
Lovely, lovely, lovely......sure wish I had the constitution of one
